RETAP is the winner of Ashden Renewable Energy Award-2001 (£15,000). The funding was used to support more schools that harvest fuel wood directly from Mt. Kenya Forest Reserve, hence reduce deforestation caused large-scale harvesting of fuel wood by many institutions surrounding the forest.
